Hong Kong Ladies Tennis League

About The HKLTL

The Hong Kong Ladies Tennis League (HKLTL) is a non-profit making league of tennis players, comprising approximately 650 ladies playing for clubs and independent teams all over Hong Kong. The league was formed in 1982 with 25 teams playing in 3 divisions and has grown to more than 60 teams playing in 6 divisions. The league is administered by a committee consisting of 12 members: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, Scheduler, six Divisional Representatives and a Social Coordinator.

The league draws players aged from 18 years minimum to 70 years plus, from a wide cross section of our community and representing many nationalities, with a common goal for competitive yet social tennis.

The HKLTL runs one season, the first half from September to December and the second half from January to April. Teams play each other twice in the season with each team hosting one match.  Matches are played on weekday mornings from 9:30am to approximately 1pm. The format of play is doubles. Each team fields two doubles pairs who play two sets against the opposition for a total of 8 sets per match. One point is awarded for each set won. The winner of each division is the team with the most points at the end of the season. The division winner is automatically promoted to a higher division and the bottom team is automatically demoted to a lower division.

Registration for the following season begins shortly after the conclusion of the current season with registration and schedules completed by May. Players may be added to existing teams in the Fall and Spring but no additional teams may be added outside the registration period.

A Christmas tournament is held each December to foster league camaraderie. An annual luncheon is held in May to celebrate the completion of the season and recognize divisional and sportsmanship winners. At both events the HKLTL raises funds for various charities, having donated almost $1.7 million since 2002 to causes benefitting the Hong Kong community and beyond.
